Mock Exam Revision
The keys skills test last for one hour. It consists of 40 multiple-choice
questions, each one is worth one mark. To pass this exam you must aim to get at
least 32 questions correct.

| Topic Area 1 Identify sources of information (6 marks) |
You must understand what suitable sources of information are, such as hand written documents, material to be scanned, files on disks, CD-Roms, databases & the internet. You must know how to search for information using multiple criteria(eg operators, such as "and", "greater than" and tools, such as search engines). |
| Topic Area 2 Interpret and explore information (5 marks) |
You must be able to identify a particular record or field
value in a table, database or spreadsheet and be able to
read charts and graphs to identify results. You must be able to identify particular information from a survey or questionnaire. You must be able to explain the what formula or cell content to use in a spreadsheet too get a desired result. |
| Topic Area 3 Enter, develop and derive information (12 marks) |
You must know the different ways of entering
information(including keyboard, microphone, scanner and digital camera) You must know when and why tables might be used in a document. You must know the different ways of entering and bringing together information (including insert or copy and paste text, tables, images and lines and boxes). You must know the different ways of inserting images (including position, text wrap and the use of behind/infront) You must know the different methods of using text boxes or frames as a useful way to insert, combine and position text in a document. |
| Topic Area 4 Lay out and present information (12 marks) |
You must know the different terms used for page layout
settings (margins, orientation(landscape or portrait), columns, headers, footers, page
numbering and date). You must know all the possible paragraph layout settings(including left, right, centred and fully justified text alignment, line spacing, tabs (left, right, centre), indents, bullets and numbering. You must know the different text formats - regular, bold, italic and underlined font styles, changes in font size). You must be able to identify number formats used in given examples of database fields and spreadsheet cells (including currency, percentage, number and decimal places). You must know how to setup the following: Spreadsheet layouts for given information (including row height, column width, row and column headings, sheet styles) Chart layouts for given information (pie chart, bar charts and line charts) and suitable headings for charts and graphs (including chart title, legend, axis and data labels) |
| Topic Area 5 Standard ways of working with IT (5 marks) |
You must know
how check work for inaccuracy in work (including proof reading, spell-checking, using
print preview, grammar checking) |
