Unit 3 – ICT in society

 

3(a) Investigation into how you use ICT at home and at school.

 

1.                  Write a short introduction to the investigation.

2.                  Name a technology and describe its key features. If you use any information copied from the Internet please reference it.  You can use work from the Internet rewritten in your own words.

3.                  You must cover 3 types of technology. You need to cover home personal use, home social use (social means with someone else), school personal use or school social use, which ever is most relevant.  Use a sub heading to identify which one you are using.

4.                  You need to explain each technology and examine the benefits and limitations (advantages and disadvantages) reflecting on your own needs (does it meet your needs or if not why).   You must give a detailed evaluation to gain the highest marks.

a)      E-mail at home (Which is for home – personal use)

b)      What is it? (Describe what email is)

c)      How do you use it?

d)      Advantages and disadvantages of e-mail for you.

e)      Does it meet your needs?

f)        Include any relevant legislation. (see below)

3(b) Investigation into uses of ICT by an adult in employment and how it has affected his/her work style.

 

1.         Write a short introduction to the investigation and name the adult, who are they and what do they do?

2.         Name a technology and describe its key features (3 uses). If you use any information copied from the Internet please reference it.  You can use work from the Internet rewritten in your own words.

3.         You need to cover personal use, social use (social means with someone else), or work related use, which ever is most relevant.  Use a sub heading to identify which one you are using.

4.         You need to explain each technology and examine the benefits and limitations (advantages and disadvantages) reflecting on the adults needs (does it meet their needs or if not why).   You must give a detailed evaluation to gain the highest marks.

Legislation

Legislation is enacted by Government to protect people from the harmful effects of ICT.

You should be aware of legislation that covers working with ICT, including:

You do not need to know the detail of the Acts or regulations, but you should understand the

reasons for their introduction. You should understand who is affected by the legislation, what

protection it offers and what aspect of using ICT is affected. You should also be aware of EU

regulations on the use of computers and the Internet Code of Practice.
